A Trip Through Death Valley’s Geologic Past: The Magnificent Rocks of Death Valley

This is a pictorial and chronological journey that provides an overview of the geological history of the Death Valley region. During an estimated 2.5 billion years, this unique region was torn apart, beneath the seas, crushed by an onrushing tectonic plate, and torn apart yet again. It was part of a number of supercontinents while resident in both the northern and southern latitudes. The journey includes rising and falling sea levels, a wide range of climates, mountain building, erosion, earthquakes, volcanoes, the birth and diversification of life in ancient seas, and the last 250 million years of evolution of plant and animal life on land.
